One of the types of actions Equanimal has been carrying out is hunt sabotage. Activists look for hunters and follow them, making noise and causing the foxes evacuate the area before the gunmen arrive. We also take footage of the way hunters behave. Sometimes this infuriates hunters, who may verbally or even physically attack the activists. The police are meant to be there to protect everyone. In fact, they are biased in favor of hunters (some of them are hunters themselves), so they often collaborate with them and even arrest or attack the animal advocates.
These actions can be seen here.
On March 3, 2008 the biggest pro-hunt demo in the history of Spain took place in Madrid. Organizers claim there were 100,000 people there (though more moderate estimations claim they were just 20,000). They were protesting against new legislation putting some limits to the kind of guns they could use and other measures they found too restricting.
A group of activists from Equanimal irrupted the demo to protest against hunting. They were assaulted by participants in the protest and then violently carried out of the demo by the police. The rest of the demonstrators passed in front of the activists with hunters verbally assaulting and threatening them.
Until recently, protests against bullfighting took place outside bullrings. Equanimal made a switch in the tactics employed and started to carry out protests inside them. On may 2008, the first anti-bullfighting protest to take place inside a bullring arena was carried out by Equanimal in Las Ventas bullring, in Madrid, the most important bullring in the world. Some of our actions against bullfighting can be seen here.
Equanimal has also demonstrated against bullfights outside the rings. In May 24, 2009, more than 300 people got naked in front of Las Ventas bullring in Madrid in protest against bullfights.
On July 7, 2008 when the running was about to start, several activists from Equanimal chained themselves to the place where the bulls were about to be released. Unfortunately they were quickly arrested by the police, but the action was seen live by many people who were waiting to watch the run begin and received significant attention from the media.
Equanimal has rescued animals several times, but it has never done so in a clandestine manner. That is, it has always done so openly displaying the identity of those who take part in these actions. These actions are shown here.
